WHAT IS A CHD?
A congenital heart defect is a problem with the structure of the heart and is present at birth. Because of advances in medical care, many children receive the care they need within the first few weeks of life, but even with improved treatment, children with a CHD are not cured and can require a lifetime of medical treatment.
HOW COMMON ARE CHDs?
Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are the most common type of birth defect with approximately 40,000 babies born with a CHD each year in the United States alone. Nearly one of every 100 babies is born with a CHD. (Source: CHPHC)

HOW DO CHDs AFFECT FAMILIES?
The need for ongoing medical care often creates excess financial and emotional stress on the families who care for children with a CHD. Families often get torn apart due to travel, medical appointments and long hospital stays, at a time when they need each other the most.
HOW WE HELP
Live4Evan helps families stay together by providing temporary housing solutions for families of children with congenital heart disease. Since March 2016, we have housed over 120 families from around the world who have children being treated in Boston’s world-class heart centers. And this need for patient-family housing is ever-growing.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Social connection is a fundamental human need, proven to increase likelihood for survival. We believe that every child living with a CHD should have family by their side.
Therefore, we are actively raising funds to open additional patient-family housing convenient to Boston’s leading pediatric cardiac center. These units will serve as a home-away-from-home for families traveling with sick children, saving our guests thousands of dollars in hotel and travel fees.
