Meet Heart Warrior, Harrison! Harrison was diagnosed prenatally with a rare Congenital Heart Defect called CCTGA (Congenitally Corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries) with pulmonary stenosis- a condition affecting just 1 in 33,000.
At just 5 weeks old, Harrison underwent his first surgery to receive a pulmonary artery (PA) band and a PDA ligation. During the procedure, his heart showed worsening arrhythmias and signs of 2:1 heart block. The surgical team placed temporary pacing leads to monitor and support his heart. However, within a week, his condition progressed, and Harrison underwent a second surgery to receive a permanent pacemaker. While his pacemaker wasn’t initially needed all the time, Harrison is now in complete heart block, meaning his pacemaker is critical to keeping his heart beating.
In the words of Harrison’s mom, “Harrison is our tiny but mighty heart warrior, a constant source of strength and inspiration. He has endured more in his little lifetime than most people ever will and his resilience inspires us every day.”
We are so glad we were able to provide Harrison’s family with affordable, temporary housing when they traveled from Georgia to Boston for his surgeries. Thank you to our generous donors for making this possible!
