We’re honored to introduce you to Xander, a brave Heart Warrior from Des Moines, Iowa.

At just under 3 years old, Xander has already endured more than most of us will in a lifetime. Born with a double aortic arch with a vascular ring and moderate tracheomalacia, his condition caused major breathing and feeding difficulties. After his first surgery failed, Xander’s vascular ring reformed, and he continued to struggle — turning blue, choking while eating, and even stopping breathing in his sleep.

But this spring, Xander and his family traveled over 1,300 miles to Boston Children’s Hospital for a second surgery — a second chance. While in Boston for 6 weeks, Live4Evan provided Xander’s family with a safe, affordable place just a block from the hospital — a home away from home during an incredibly stressful time.

And this time? The surgery worked. Today, Xander can play outside like any other kid his age — chasing trucks and reenacting scenes from his favorite Disney movies, Moana and Cars. He can finally eat and drink without choking, and his nights are no longer filled with medical scares.

Xander’s family shares, “We are forever grateful for Live4Evan and Boston Children’s Hospital. They were so accommodating when his surgery was pushed out due to illness and made sure we had everything we would need to feel at home.”

Xander’s story is one of courage, resilience, and the power of community. We’re so proud to celebrate this little fighter and to have played a small part in his journey. Thank you to our supportive community of sponsors and donors for helping to make this possible ❤️
