At their 28-week prenatal appointment, Beckham’s family learned that their son had pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum, a rare congenital heart defect that often results in a single-ventricle heart. Beckham arrived early at just 34 weeks, and from the very beginning, his tiny heart was fighting more than it ever should have. At only one month old, he underwent his first open-heart surgery, marking the start of a journey far bigger than any newborn should face.

As his family searched for the best possible path forward, they discovered Boston Children’s Hospital’s Complex Biventricular Repair Program – a unique option tailored specifically to Beckham’s anatomy. After seeking a second opinion, Boston accepted him for right-ventricle recruitment during his second surgery, the Glenn. At that moment, his family knew this was the right direction for him.

The road there wasn’t simple. Just as they prepared to travel, Beckham was readmitted to his home hospital in Minnesota due to low oxygen levels. Suddenly, everything felt uncertain – including when they could leave and where they would stay once they arrived in Boston.

Beckham’s family shares: “Thankfully, Live4Evan had an apartment available for our family. Their support made a huge difference, giving us a stable, comfortable home away from home and allowing us to focus fully on Beckham. What was expected to be a 3–4 week stay ended up being longer. Through it all, Live4Evan continued to support us, giving us the stability to focus completely on him. Their support provided a true home away from home—safe, steady, and close to the hospital. Live4Evan is woven into our story as a vital part of Beckham’s journey, and their generosity will always hold a special place in our hearts.”

We are so glad we were able to provide Beckham’s family with temporary affordable housing while he was receiving care. Thank you to our donors and supporters for making this happen❤️
