At their 20-week prenatal appointment, Clara’s parents learned that she would be born with multiple congenital heart defects (CHDs), including a hole in her heart and congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries. She was also diagnosed with heterotaxy syndrome, which makes her more vulnerable to infections.

Shortly after birth, Clara underwent her first open-heart surgery at her local hospital. Unfortunately, complications arose, and she required a second emergency surgery after developing necrotizing enterocolitis.

In search of specialized care, Clara’s family turned to Boston Children’s Hospital for a second opinion. They traveled from Maryland so she could receive treatment there, where she underwent her second and shortly thereafter her third open-heart surgery.

We were honored to provide Clara’s family with affordable, temporary housing during their time in Boston. Clara’s family shared, “Thank you! If it wasn’t for Live4Evan, this would be so much more difficult.”

To our incredible supporters: thank you for making stories like Clara’s possible. We are so grateful for your continued support.
