Today we want to introduce you to Heart Warrior, Casey. Casey was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) last November. In simple terms, he essentially has half a heart and is missing his left ventricle. Casey’s family learned of his diagnosis at their 20 week anatomy scan. It was a giant curveball for them and quite the surprise, especially since no other member of their family, including Casey’s older sister, has a CHD.
His family spent the next few months anxiously preparing for his arrival. Part of this preparation included temporarily relocating to Boston from Connecticut so they could be close to Boston Children’s Hospital. Casey underwent his first open heart surgery at 3 days old and his second at 5 months old.
Casey’s family shares, “One of the blessings in all of this is we had Live4Evan available to us. It was our home away from home two times now. The proximity of L4E’s apartment to Boston Children’s is unmatched. It allowed my husband to stay with our son at the hospital and me to stay with our daughter at the apartment and walk over in an instant. It allowed us to keep our family together and continue a normalcy for our daughter. Our 3 year old daughter loves it so much, there were so many toys for her to play with in both apartments we stayed, she even cried when we had to leave because she said she preferred it over our house! Live4Evan is incredible and I’m so grateful for your help and comfort while dealing with such a serious CHD and so much uncertainty. You really were such a blessing and I can’t thank you enough.”
Today Casey is back at home growing, getting stronger, and spending lots of time with his big sister! We are so glad we were able to help provide his family with affordable, temporary housing during these difficult times. Thank you to our supporters for making this possible.
